Cutest Baby of the Planet 2009

“Hello people! My name is Collin Cheah Yi Wen and I was born on 19 Feb 2008″

The title of today’s blog really scares me. Imagine a contest with the winner walking (or possibly crawling) away with that title of being the cutest on the PLANET! Does it mean we’re competing against babies from other countries…or even baby animals? Gasp! Now, don’t you think it sounds scary?

Alas! I had to make my already thick skin (thanks for the DNA Papa!) a little more thicker and try my luck with a  submission of myself in this wonderful contest organised by MomBloggersPlanet. After all, the list of all the 20 prizes that is worth more than RM 4,000 is tempting enough for make me drool a bucketful already…

Since MBP now already has 14 babies in the running for this ‘world title’ since this competition began in June 2009, they have been generous enough to open up nominations for SIX more babies to be selected to join in the final 20 list. Wee!

If you know of a cute baby (or if you are one yourself  *wink*) aged between 0-3, regardless of if he/she is our child, sibling or cousin, then you MUST quickly head on over to the NOMINATION PAGE today to submit an entry. Closing date for nominations is on 10 Jan 2009 so better act fast! Remember, you are doing it for the sake of our PLANET. All cute babies must be paraded! :-p

New Beginnings

A new year, and indeed a perfect timing for new beginnings….like a new BLOG.

With the birth of my baby sister Caitlynn about a month ago, I guess it would be right and fair as a good, big brother to be sharing loads of stuff with her…

..like my toys

…like my clothes

…like my bed

…like Papa and Mama

…like attention from everyone else

…like noise space

…like blogging space…

As such, I’m really excited  to be moving my blog back to  Papa’s family domain and share it with baby Caitlynn.  She tells me she had already collected her first moon and is now finally ready to blog her journey of life.

So, thanks again for stopping by today’s FIRST blog of a new year 2010 from a new blog – Playful Pups. Do visit us often for more regular updates!

And what better timing to kick off the NEW YEAR 2010 with a fresh new blog together with my baby sister!

“I have moved…HERE”

Today is the eve of many new beginnings. It marks my final blog posting on Collin’s Kennel because tomorrow, I shall venture together with my baby sister Caitlynn to continue our blogging adventures of our life in this new blog HERE where we shall be known as the Playful Pups!

Parenting Tip: Cooler Bags

For parents who are also in the business of feeding their babies with Mother’s goodness (mmmmmmm..), I’m sure the time will come where they will be looking for insulated storage bags to move the frozen or chilled yummies around – be it for a shopping day out or a long road trip out-station.

All parents will soon realize that these special insulated bags are NOT very common in the babies section in departmental stores or hypermarkets. This may lead them to look in other baby specialty where these bags are sold – at quite an expensive price I may add. Papa made this discovery of a cheaper alternative which I thought I should share with all parents out there today.

Instead of shopping for such bags in the baby section of departmental stores, may I suggest looking in the automobile or car accessory section where you can look for their cooler bags (bags with also similar silver aluminum insulation or padded stuff used to keep can drinks cold). Here, you can find sizes to store 6, 12 or even 24 cans! Definitely big enough to store lotsa bottles of yummy Mama’s goodness chilled – and at easily a quarter of the price of special insulated bags for the same purpose!

Livina in Action, or rather Action in Livina…

When one has to go, one has to go, right? One of those Sunday mornings, Papa and Mama took me to South City Plaza after church. It was indeed a strange Sunday for me because it seemed like I was really in a pooping mood.

So, during one of those infamous explosions where I really needed to be cleaned up, Papa frantically tried to find a proper area to change my diapers but found none. Even the public toilets there didn’t have any flat sinks or anything similar.

I was quickly rushed to the car park where Papa’s second baby was waiting. With the back rows flattened, Papa’s Livina had become a makeshift diaper changing table! After all the action happening there, I was cleaned up and ready to go again in no time!

Ahhh…thanks big buddy! You sure can be pretty useful when need be! :-D

One Water Bed, Please!

Bath time is still one of my favourite sessions of my life so far. And I think the adults are beginning to use it on me as a weapon too. You see, now whenever I cry and wail and nothing else seem to work to soothe me, they will deduce that my diapers need a-changing, and in the process, “ might as well give wailin’ Collin a bath too. It’s sure to stop his wailing!”

Sure enough, I will be so satisfied in the tub of water, enjoying my limited minutes of satisfaction in the warmth and comfort of the water element. If my minutes are not long enough to my mark, I will start my wailing the second I am taken out of my tub.

Hmmm. I wonder how long I have to do this stunt before they know that what I want is really my own water bed!!…(still yearning for my jacuzzi, but have since been more realistic)

0183

The numbers represent the last four digits of my IC.

On the fourth day after I was born, eager beaver Papa went to Putrajaya on my behalf to register my birth certificate and MyKid (which can only be collected about a month later).

Why did those numbers make this blog? Becos the numbers are exactly the same as the house address number Mama used to live in as a baby and kid in KL. Freaky, eh?

Seeing Double

One of Mama’s colleague mentioned that the name Collin sounds international. Wow…really like that comment. ;-P. And I’m really glad Papa & Mama chose my Collin with 2 Ls instead of the more common Colin (with single L).

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that everyone at home also has a double alphabet in their names! I may be young but I’ve noticed Papa’s name has 2 Ls (Allan), Mama’s has 2 Es (Pei Gee), and both our dogs too (Rotti and Messi)

Is that a double chin I see in the mirror?! Gasp! I hope not!

How my name came about…

Papa & Mama explained to me that the task of coming up with my name took months and months of browsing through name books, getting suggestions from family and friends and even consulting a Chinese pastor to be in Singapore!

Anyway, three names were shortlisted – Evan, Benjamin and Collin. After a few more weeks of shouting my name (hey, I can hear from inside Mama’s tummy, you know) a thousand times everyday, Papa & Mama decided that Benjamin was quite a mouthful – so that left Evan and Collin. Both were too nice to drop so they decided to keep both, that is by making one of them my Chinese name. Since Evan in Chinese (Yi Wen) sounded nicer, the tentative draft was set – Collin Cheah Yi Wen.

For the curious cats, meaning of Evan from www.thinkbabynames.com :
The boy’s name Evan \e-
van\ is pronounced EV-an. It is of Welsh origin. Variant of a Gaelic name anglicized as John (Hebrew) “the Lord is gracious“. In Celtic, the name means “young warrior“. In Welsh, it means “God is Good“. It is also used as a short form of Evangelos, which means “good messenger” in Greek. In Hebrew, Evan means “rock“. See also Evian.

Will write more about my Chinese name later. Feeding time. Yummy.
