Deep & Shallow Thoughts

Driving Simulations

I enjoy every second of the time spent in Papa’s car. That’s when Caitlynn and I pick up plenty of valuable lessons like singing, talking and of course…driving!

Yup, when I pick up my toy frisbee, I will engage myself as the driver too, following the hand motions of Papa at every turn. So when Papa says he’s turning left or right, I would be able to learn immediately which is left or right too!

When Papa waves his hand at our friendly neighbourhood security guard, I will also do likewise.

When Papa turns on the signal switch, I will also do likewise and make a similar sound. :-P

I would also constantly have this debate with Papa on which one of our steering wheels is more nicer?  Papa would tend to say his has a horn, and I would say mine is more colourful…hee!

Now, hopefully after clocking some useful hours of simulation driving this way, I could convince Papa to let me have a  go at the real thing someday…hee!

Kindergarten: The Good and The Bad

After some two weeks + of tear-less days in my kindergarten, I have finally managed to collect my thoughts and reflected on the positives and negatives of kindergarten…

The GOOD:

- It’s only half a day!!

- I get extra “hug hug kiss kiss” from Papa when he drops me off. :-D

- Angie! My ‘big sister’ that looks after me!

- Teachers are pretty nice.

- I think I’m actually starting to enjoy drinking water!

- Mama’s sandwiches! Yummy!

- Big field with lotsa toys!

- Everyone seems like like my name-stitching on my bag! Hee!

The BAD:

- It’s still SCHOOL! :-(

- There’s homework! Sigh.

- Bad day when I vomitted in class. Good to note they have spare clothes on standby!

- Still cannot understand why school is much more than just ‘not crying’ Sigh.

- Food served is not really fantastic…

- The uniform…sigh. Actually I think the T-shirt version is pretty OK. :-P

- Still no close friends..:-(

- Mistakenly took back a water bottle that looks like Caitlynn’s…hehe….

My First Day of Sunday School

Whilst Koko Collin faced many daunting challenges with his first year in kindergarten this year, I also experienced my first year of sorts – in Sunday School!

Although it was not my first time attending our church’s Sunday School, it was definitely my official year as a registered student there.

My first day was like two Sundays ago, just before the Chinese New Year holidays. Still the turnout was pretty scary…by my standards, since I really have this phobia about crowds. It didn’t feel too scary at first…probably because I managed to drag Papa to sit in the entire group session…hee!

Koko Collin seemed OK by himself…we were sort of separated by some drawn lines – the boys sat on one side and the girls on the other. After the praise and worship, there were some games, which were strange since only some of the volunteered students took part. not that I’m complaining….I became somewhat comforted that Papa was still with me…hee!

We were then ushered by our respective teachers to our smaller groups…I was in the group for those aged 3 and below. By now, Papa started to stealthily disappear. I really didn’t notice he had gone till after the class was over!

I seriously think nothing much was planned for that day since the teachers simply gave us some toys to play with, some colouring activities, etc. I didn’t even receive my attendance book that day. Hmmmph.

Anyway, I think my first day in Sunday School was on overall, a success because I didn’t really cry that much compared to Koko Collin’s first day last time. Hee! Although I still felt very scared and shy inside.

So far, I think I like Teacher Hannah best…probably because she spent the most time helping me with the playing blocks. Also maybe because the name is similar to one of my cousin’s name..:-P I also allowed her to carry me to keep some of the toys after the class. :-D

These are some photos of my first day in Sunday School…

Teacher Hannah helping me to handle the pencils...:-D

Koko Collin also doing some colouring in his class...

Auto-Conversations with Collin

I have noticed a lot my funny and colourful conversations takes place when I’m inside the car…so this is a special and exclusive ‘auto’ edition of my Colourful Conversations with Collin series…enjoy!

Me: Papa..

Papa: Yes, Collin?

Me: You know I can drive a car one..

Papa: Really?

Me: Yeah…just like you!

Papa: Haha. I think you’re still too small to drive a car, Collin.

Me: I can one!

Papa: Do you have a driving licence?

Me: Yes, I got driving licence. Just like you!

Papa: Really?

Me: Yes, Both you and me can drive because we got driving licence.

Papa: Haha…ok..

Me: Only Mei Mei cannot drive.

Papa: Why not?

Me: Mei Mei don’t have driving licence.

Papa: Oh? Then does Mei Mei have any other licence?

Me: Erm…yes. Mei Mei only got sleeping licence…

Papa: ?!!

—————

Me: Papa…

Papa: Yeah, Collin?

Me: What road is this?

Papa: This highway or road is called Besraya.

Me: What?

Papa: Besraya.

Me: What is Besraya?

Papa: It’s just the name of this road.

Me: Why?

Papa: erm….Papa is not sure. It was probably just given the name when they built the road.

Me: Orh…so the road name is Besraya..

Papa: Yup..

Me: Just like Buzz Lightyear!

Papa:?!!!

—————-

Me: Papa….why are there so many bumps on the road one?

Papa: The bumps are there to make sure people drive slower and safer.

Me: Orh…

Papa: For example, people driving too fast will have to slow down when they approach a bump lor..

Me: Ahh…then how come train tracks no bumps one?

Papa: Erm…train tracks cannot have bumps because if they do, the trains will be derailed by the bumps..meaning the trains will be thrown off the tracks..

Me: Why wor?

Papa: The train is already moving so fast already. If there was a bump, it will surely be thrown off the tracks.

Me: Orh…but we can remove the bumps from the train track what.?

Papa: That’s why there are no bumps in your train track set, right?

Me: So, cars cannot be thrown off the road?

Papa: No, unless they are moving really fast..

Me: What if the train can move on the road wor?

Papa: Err…Trains cannot move on the road, Collin.

Me: Yeah, because if they reach a bump, they can fly away! Like rocket like that!

Papa: ?!!

Mini Masterchef

Seeing and tasting all those yummy Chinese New Year foods have really ignited my interest to be more than a spectator, a food taster, an eater….I think I have what it takes to be like those Masterchefs I see on TV.

Let’s see, I’ve been practicing on most of my masak-masak toys regularly….

I’ve been steadily watching Mama at work in the kitchen…

I’ve been watching some bits of shoes on the food channels…

I enjoy the Kitchen Musical…

I pay attention in supermarkets when vegetables, fish and meat are bought…

Hmmmm…looks like I’m all set….

Now, if I could only coax Koko Collin to be my honored food-taster…hee!

My First Week Report Card

Kindergarten. Aack! I think it’s really a love-hate relationship….more hate, probably….

It’ s been about ONE WEEK since I started my first day of kindergarten, and I have to say I haven’t fully grasp or adapted yet. Everything new is surely scary too and that is one area I am trying hard to work on, as I move into my second week of kindergarten.

So, today I’d like to reflect on my first week of kindergarten – the happy times and the sad times…

(cue flashback music…)

It all started on 4 January 2012 when Papa and Mama brought me to kindergarten. What immediately struck me was the huge crowd of strangers and scary looking teachers. Some may think I’m pretty used to big crowds due to my exposure in my church’s Sunday School but this is a whole new experience for me. As a matter of fact, I’m still slightly terrified and shy with the Sunday School crowd too. Heh.

Anyway, I was led into this room called PH2 Carnation ( I think it is some kind of flower. Dunno why flowers were chosen for the class themes. I would have been more comfortable with names like Diprodin and Zyrtec) where luckily for me, there was an empty seat right at the back. Good thing too, since I am tall and want to remain unnoticed for as long as possible. I managed to drag Mama into the class with me, although she did look kinda awkward in the room filled with tiny chairs and tables.

Some kids started crying and throwing tantrums. I couldn’t understand why…until Mama motioned to me that she needed to leave and that I would be ALL ALONE…Gasp! The panic button was automatically hit and I started to join in the commotion and cried and cried too.

Eventually, the teachers brought out some art and craft stuff and even some form of lego-like toys for us to play with, but I still remain scared and shocked at the entire situation. I kept crying and insisting for Papa or Mama to stay close to me.

After some time, the kindy teachers seemed to give some (ill) advice to to Papa and Mama to just let me go and allow me to independently adapt to the crowd. This caused me to cry even more but after a while my wailings became mere sobbings as I braved myself to sniff and sit through the class..

My first day became much better when the bell rang (literally) and we were dismissed. I only managed to start smiling when I got to meet up with my ‘big sister’ Angie, who is in the Year 6 class. Papa, Mama and Angie’s daddy were waiting outside to meet us and fetch us back to Auntie D’s house  for the rest of the afternoon.

These are the more happy photos taken on my first day at kindy…

My conclusion of kindergarten? It sucks. SIGH.

Do I still need to come here tomorrow?!!! SIGH.

Day 2 and 3 was more of the same. Plenty of crying when the classes started and my day would only brighten up when class was dimissed and I got to see Angie and go back with her.

Things started to improve the following week on Day 4 and 5 when I noticed I started crying only “a little bit” as I would tell Papa and Mama. Probably also because I may have cried out my entire tank of tears already! The teachers also seemed nicer now and some even noticed I can be quite attentive and focussed when given things to do, like drawing or colouring.

Day 6 was a breakthrough day for me when managed and succeeded to survive through the entire day in kindy WITHOUT crying! Yay me!I proudly announced it to the world every 5 minutes so people would know it. :-D

So far, kindergarten has been all about my crying and adapting that I cannot really recall if I learnt anything important at all! Papa, Mama, Auntie D and just about everyone else seems to like to ask what new things I learnt or what I did in kindy, but for some strange reason, I am unable to recall what I did!

Hmmm….now that I think I have finally conquered my crying fears, I think I will try to focus more on learning some stuff from kindy for the weeks to come…:-D

Has kindergarten been tough on you too?

“Koko!”

The simple four-letter affectionate name of my older brother, Collin is actually more useful than you think…

For example, I use it very frequently when questioned by Papa or Mama about some crime or stuff we were not supposed to do…

“OK, who spilled water here?”

“Who threw the toy?”

“Who tore the book?”

“Who hasn’t washed hands?”

Hehe…see how useful it is? Of course, sometimes, I blurt it out too often that I get caught when asked otehr things as well, like..

“Who wants to bathe first?”

“Who wants to be buckled in the car first?”

“Who wants dinner?”

“Who wants medicine?”

“Who wants some biscuits?”

Ahhh…and that’s why I sayang my Koko so much! :-P

Ushering into 2012!

Moving forward to a new year has always been exciting.

What lies ahead? What’s to look out for? Will it be better than 2011?

These are some of the things I’m looking forward to in 2012:

- Turning FOUR!

- Going to kindergarten – my first taste of school..

- Getting a new baby brother!

- Sunday School reopens!

- More big brother time with Caitlynn!

But whatever it is, I’m pretty sure 2012 is gonna be really bright, so I just gotta put on those shades and move forward in confidence!

Are you looking forward to 2012?

My Playful Pups

Of all my beloved soft toys (and there are SO many of them!), I need to make a special mention to two of my favourites – my twin puppies!

I cannot really remember where they came from or who bought it, but the fact is that they are now MINE and I simply adore them.

I love them so much that I always treat them like my own pets or babies – which includes constant love, feeding, patting, talking to, etc.

These twin puppies have to be the ones that Mama takes to wash most often, compared to my other soft toys. Shows how much ‘affection’ I show them everyday! Hee!

Most kids will have their favourite blankie or pillow. Some even may have a favourite action figure or plant. As for me, I’ll always have…my playful pups! :-D

A Cool Volcano

Although food is best served piping hot, most times, we would still try to cool it down a little unless we want a burnt tongue!

These are some ways to cool down your hot, hot food:

1. Blow…

2. Turn on the fan…

3. Open the windows…

4. Use hand fan, or any available book, paper…

5. Get Papa or Mama to blow…

6. Go play something or watch TV first…

7. Ice it!

8. Stir it!

9. Smell the food first, whilst waiting…

And my favourite method of all…

10. Make a food VOLCANO….
