Multi-Purpose Pillow

From the looks of it, I guess they sure don’t make pillows like the ones back then in Papa’s time..(oops..)

Take Mama’s multi-purpose feeding pillow (as I would call it). Not only does it offer Mama plenty of comfort whilst feeding me with Mama’s goodness, it also easily doubles up as a very comfy BED for me!

The size and curve is just right to provide the safety and cosiness for a really good sleep..

And, of course yet another (unwritten in the manual) function is a toy to older kids. You wouldn’t believe how much fun this pillow brings to both Koko and Jiejie.  Sigh..it’s a wonder the pillow manufacturers don’t make gigantic sized ones for toddlers to sleep in as well. Hee!

Anyway, gotta go now…nap time beckons! :-D

Strategic Evasive Maneuvers

To many people, I may look quite pint sized and petit. True, I may sometimes display flashes of stubbornness and aggresion, but underneath it all is a brilliant strategist and schemer at work. Hee!

How does one meet the criteria to be a master strategist, you ask?

No, regularly spouting “Koko did it” does not count. :-P

Perhaps one of my more successful and ingenious schemes is a deflecting tactic that functions with the objective to escape immediate punishment.

For example, if I were to (accidentally, of course) commit something naughty or wrong, Papa and Mama would be usually quick to come to the scene of the crime, assess it before carrying out the required punishment. Most of the time, it would be a time-out on the so-called ‘naughty chair’, or a simple verbal advice of not to do it again, or a quick spank on my hands.

Whatever it is, I will usually wait out to listen to what punishment I would be getting. If I feel like escaping it, I will immediately execute my strategic Evasive Maneuver: Caitlynn Delta Alpha….

With a sudden burst of tears rolling down my cheeks, I will bend my knees and project a tense look as if I needed to go to the toilet…and yelp “Chi-chi…chi-chi..” Without fail, Papa and Mama will definitely hurry to take me to the toilet or to collect my potty.

After I get to sit down on the potty or toilet seat, I will then assess the situation to time how long I need to sit in my evaded comfort. Basically, the harsher the punishment, the longer I would choose to sit. Hee!

Does this always work? Well, no.

Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn’t….but it was definitely worth the try!

Actually, come to think of it, it has not been working of late…hmmm…so I reckon it’s about time to come up with another evasive strategy then…hee!

The Lesson of the Handshake

When I came out, I knew that life was always going to teach me plenty of lessons…

…but I didn’t quite expect that one of my very first lesson in life was the “handshake”…

Yup, you all heard me right. I was taught this lesson right there in the hospital even before I got discharged!

According to Papa, the “handshake” is apparently a very important and friendly gesture that projects plenty of love and carmaderari- something. Lost focus there…:-P Papa sounded quite serious when he taught me this so I reckon it has gotta be pretty important stuff!

I noticed not too long later that my siblings have also been taught well in the ways of the “handshake” too…

Before play, we have to...

...shake hands! :-D

Have you shaken hands with someone today? :-P

Birth Certified & Identity Carded

About a week or so after my birth, Papa had to go to this office in Putrajaya to run a few important errands on my behalf. In short, Papa went to certify my birth and applied for my identity card – kid’s edition. Heh.

When Papa reached there, he was pleasantly surprised to see the following poster:

One hour?! Wow! Koko Collin and Jijie Caitlynn recalled during their time when they had to wait like about one month after the application date to collect their MyKid!

Hmmm…perhaps the issuing office finally realised there isn’t much (honestly!) that one can do with the MyKid anyway, so the speed of issuance could be improved that way? Hee! I also suspect the chip in the MyKid is as valuable as a potato chip. :-P

Anyhow, Papa didn’t have to wait long before submitting all the proper documentations to apply for my birth certificate and MyKid..

…after which he received my birth certificate (my first ever certificate in this paper frenzy world!), and this chit to collect the MyKid …..so the one hour charter is TRUE! :-P

And, as promised, about an hour later, Papa came back to the counter to collect my identity card, the MyKid!

Ahhh….am proud to be a citizen of Malaysia!

Now if only I can find some use for this card…:-P

First Contact: Grandparents

Obviously, my grandparents were excited to see me as soon as they could also….and that’s why Ah Ma (Papa’s side) came down to KL on the same day we were discharged from the hospital..

The next day, Papa and Mama took me to see the doctor (that gives stickers..according to Koko Collin) to check if the yellowness on my skin was anything to be concerned about. Very professionally, he took out some gadget that looks like a huge gun and flashed myforehead a couple of times. Apparently the device does some measurement or count of my blood cells or some other stuff that would verify if I had that dreaded ‘jaundice’ or not.

Thankfully, the doctor said the count is not very severe and that we could go home without worry or additional treatment. Great! That was essentially the green light we needed to go home! Err…homes of my grandparents, that is..:-P

The next day, Papa and Mama started to pack up in the morning. Later, we swung over to Auntie D’s house to pick up Koko Collin (after his kindergarten) and Jiejie Caitlynn before shooting off straight to Ipoh for our next stop!

And it was in Ipoh that I next met my first grandpa – Ah Kong, from Papa’s side..

Ah Kong and I

Moments with Ah Kong and Ah Ma

We were initially supposed to only make a pit-stop (like what Papa calls it) in Ipoh before heading to Sitiawan where Mama will stay for her confinement period. Unfortunately, Ah Por (Mama’s side) was not feeling too well at that time, so we had to stay a couple more days in Ipoh first.

Journeying back to Sitiawan with Jiejie

We only left for Sitiawan on 20 Feb, exactly one week after I was delivered. The journey was much shorter than I expected…maybe also because I slept throughout most of the journey anyway..hee! The weatehr was also not too hot so everyone else int eh car (except Papa, of course) also slept.

We arrived in Sitiawan all awake and refreshed and that was when I met my other grandparents, Ah Por and Ah Koong..

Ah Por and I

Sorry…wasn’t able to get a good photo of Ah Koong…but am determined to get one with him soon! :-P

Anyways, here are a couple more photos of me that was taken during my time in Ipoh and Sitiawan..

And thus, my confinement period with Mama begins… Jiejie Caitlynn will also stay back in Sitiawan with us whilst both Papa and Koko Collin went back to KL the next day, because Papa has to start work and Koko has to start his kindergarten already.

And that ends my first week’s recollection of my life! Stay tuned as I share more than just sleeping and pooping in my future blogs…ha ha..:-D

Cake Obsession

I think it might be the case of celebrating and cutting too many cakes within the same period of time…because I may have contracted some severe case of “cake obsession”…

There are many occasions when I see cakes everywhere..

If I don’t, I will creatively make a cake out of stuff in my hands and start to celebrate birthdays! Check out some of my nice cakes…

Of course, it would be be better of they could be eaten too…haha…

…like the last ‘edible’ cake I had when Kan Ma bought me a special pandan cake on my birthday (err..I think..)

First Contact: Koko and Jiejie

Continuing the story of my birth from my delivery in the earlier blog, I was placed cosily beside Mama as the nurses wheeled her bed (bed with wheels! Cool!) to Room 222, which is (I think) a ward for all Mamas to rest after delivering.

Everything was pretty routine for next couple of hours…I would feed on Mama’s goodness, sleep, poop and repeat the steps all over again. My eyesight can’t really see too far yet, which was a good thing since Mama never did really turn on that  TV thingy that hung from the ward ceiling.

Papa would come to check on Mama and look at me every now and then too! Which was good to have that early father-son bonding..hee!

It was only during my second day at the hospital that Papa finally brought my older siblings to see me! Yeah! I was quite excited to see who my brother and sister were, how are they like, etc. Imagine, these would actually be my closest teachers/mentors/models to help me grow up in life!

These are pictures of my first contact with Koko Collin and Jiejie Caitlynn:

My analysis?

For the first few minutes, I was totally overawed at how big both Koko and Jiejie were! Both were very gentle in stroking my hands, legs and patting my head. After a while, it would seem that only Jiejie Caitlynn was still watching and caring over me. Sure looks like a big sister I can depend on!

Koko Collin? Err…by then he was hopping all over the place already…:-p Anyway, I really can’t wait to go back and grow up with them! Shortly after, Papa took both of them back, but not before giving them some presents and telling them that it was from me!

Strange, I don’t remember getting any stuff for my siblings…Anyway, I thought it was a pretty good gesture as they left feeling quite happy!

The next day, Papa came over and helped Mama in packing up because it was time to go HOME! Wee!

Papa had brought along this huge basket thingy called the Moses basket to carry me home. This Moses fella must be kinda important to have some basket named after him.:-P Anyway, it turned out Mama said since I was still pretty small to be travelling in the car on some basket, it would be safer if she carried me on the journey home…

The basket was not entirely useless though, as Papa used it to carry all the other we needed to bring back home from the hospital…

So, not long after, I began my first journey inside a car on the way home…

…where I was placed (finally) in the Moses basket!

Home was very welcoming too because both Koko and Jiejie had prepared a present each to sorta welcome me! Hee!

Ahhh..a mini Lighting McQueen plush and a puppy plush! Just what a baby boy needs! :-P

Stay tuned for my next blog as I detail my first contacts with my grandparents! :-)

Labour Log: The Delivery

Every labour and delivery episode of a baby has its own unique story to tell. Mine begins like this..

(note: events occuring before my birth was gathered and compiled through various inputs and first eye accounts from Papa, Mama, Koko Collin and Jiejie Caitlynn. Take caution that Koko Collin’s inputs do tend to be overly dramatic at times..)

It was the wee hours of the morning around 4am. The date was already 13 Feb 2012. A Monday.

Mama mentioned that it was around this time that she felt some wet drippings. She was quite sure it was not the ‘water-broke’ thingy I keep hearing, but it could be the start of it. Still feeling sleepy at that time, she proceeded to sleep some more…

She then woke Papa up at 7am and said that today could be it.. Everyone got up and got dressed like any other day. Except for this morning, Papa didn’t wear his working clothes but put on something more casual instead. Koko Collin put on his kindergarten uniform and Jiejie Caitlynn just got ready just like she would be going to Auntie D’s house.

After fetching both my brother and sister to their respective destinations in the morning, Papa came back home to fetch Mama to the hospital. Of course, by then Mama had already taken her bath and breakfast. Looks like experience from her previous labours had come in handy. :-D Unfortunately, according to Papa, the traffic still looks pretty bad at that point, so Papa also decided to have a quick breakfast at home first whilst waiting for the traffic to subside. If I heard correctly, they even had time to watch quite a bit of the Grammy Awards that was airing live that morning!

At around 9.30am, Papa and Mama only started to make their way to Hospital Pantai Ampang…and they made it there before 10.30am. Although there was not much traffic getting out from our area, there was a massive jam near the junction turnoff along the MRR2 caused by an accident involving a huge, long truck.

Upon check-in, Mama was led to the delivery suite where the nurses came to check on her. They mentioned the dilation was t about 4cm at that time.

Since the water-bag thingy had already broken the first layer (amongst other things the doctor and nurses mumbled that no one else really understood), the doctor gave Mama some EPIC-dural, which must be some big thing that would help Mama get some rest and also encourage the dilation. And so Mama rested…

and rested…

And before long, it was already lunch time! No sign of ME yet! Still trying to enjoy my final moments in Mama’s natural water park..:-D

Papa also waited and waited…but in the end he was also hungry but since he quite kan cheong and didn’t want to miss ME coming out, he rushed and brought up the loaf of butterscotch bread he had left in the car. And that became his lunch as he proceeded to keep the world updated with a live commentary of Mama’s labour online. :-D

Although there was no sign of me coming out anytime soon, Papa said seeing the doctor’s PCK boots outside on standby certainly gave some assurances that she was close by. :-P

From about 3pm onwards, the time seemed to move quite fast and furious because Mama motioned to the nurses that the contractions have come and she could start to feel the pain already. By the time Mama told them she is ready to push ME out, the nurses were frantically trying to get Mama to ‘hold on’ first whilst getting the Doctor on a hotline to quickly come to the room! Papa recalls some of the dialogue that took place:

“Ma’am..hold on yah…doctor is coming already..”

“I FEEL THE BABY COMING OUT ALREADY!”

“Doctor is on the way, ma’am. Try not to push already, ok?”

“SHE HAD BETTER BE RUNNING HERE!”

Anyway, before I know it, the Doctor came in and with a huff and puff, Mama pushed me out cleanly at about 4.05pm. When I compared notes with Koko Collin and Jiejie Caitlynn, I would place my delivery as the fastest of us three. Strange though since I also got marked for my delivery as SVD. If Jiejie thinks her SVD stood for Speedy Version Delivery, mine might be Super Velocity Delivery! Hee!

The nurses promptly placed me in some warm mini bed with some artificial warm light tanning me all over. Curious that they never even bothered to place any sun tan lotion on me before that. Hmmmph.

After that, I was placed on the weighing scale and my birth weight was recorded at 3.1kg – lighter than Koko Collin but heavier than Jiejie Caitlynn. Although I think I might have been able to get closer to Koko if I didn’t do my business earlier..hee! Next, my length and head was measured to be 53cm and 34cm respectively. I would appear to be the tallest too, compared to my older siblings at birth!

Find out more about what my name means HERE

After allowing Mama to rest for a little while longer, I was placed with Mama on the bed as the nurses moved us out of the Delivery Suite to the ward in Level 2.

…and that is where I will spend the next two nights in and out of Mama’s ward (for my feeds of Mama’s goodness) before we can be discharged. So, what happened during those days and nights before we left for home?

I’ll tell ya all in my next blog!

Till then, I will sign off my blog with more photos taken during the first few hours from my birth..

Grand Times with Grandpas

GRAND

Adjective: Impressive in size, appearance, or general effect; stately, majestic, or dignified; highly ambitious or idealistic; magnificent or splendid; noble or revered (source: Dictionary.com)

Ever since I looked up on the meaning of GRAND, I am beginning to understand how cool our Grandpas really are. I can’t help but notice very striking similarities between both Ah Kong (Papa’s side) and Ah Koong (Mama’s side).

For example, both of them…

- are generally camera shy

- prefers oriental food

- are calm and steady

- don’t like pizzas..

- very good around kids like Caitlynn and myself! Hee

Yeah, although both our grandpas are seemingly on the reserved side, they have this mysterious attraction that is always very entertaining and fun for us kids.

So, in photo form, here are some recent (and exclusive) photos of our grand times with our grandpas!
