Our Christmas Tree

Yay! It’s that time of the year again!

The season of giving and receiving, of family and friends, of presents and food, of hope and love…and of course, of trees, decor and lights!

Yes, Christmas is indeed coming soon!

About two weeks ago, Papa and Mama finally took out the all-important boxes filled with the seasonal greens and decorations and lights. Caitlynn is about a year older now since we last put up the tree so she was able to help a bit more than just stare at us last year. Hee! Well, actually, she did more running around the tree compared to last year, but I’m pretty sure she will be an asset in tearing down the tree after Christmas..:-p

Yup, setting up the family Christmas tree is always great fun and activity for the entire family. Although the entire process didn’t take too long (guess we’re getting pro at this), the time spent hanging the bells and balls with one another is great quality time that simply cannot be missed!

And the joy of watching the lights come on is just irresistible!

Here are photos of the us putting up the tree and decor…all in good time for Christmas!

Whew…what fun!

Now, all we need are the pressies! :-D

Hair of the Day!

Deflections

During a recent dinner gathering with some of Papa and Mama’s friends, I was introduced to this funny Koko Joe, who kept asking me weird questions that is apparently related to Malaysian politics..

Uncle Joe: Hi, Collin!

Me: Hi.

Uncle Joe: How old are you Collin?

Me: Erm….am I three?

Uncle Joe: Wah, not bad….can answer my question with a question…

Me: Huh?

Uncle Joe: I think you have good potential to be a politician..

Me: Huh? What’s that?

Uncle Joe: Collin, do you know cows?

Me: Err, yes..

Uncle Joe: Do you think cows can live in condos?

Me: (thinks hard) Erm…..huh? So funny one.

Uncle Joe: Why?

Me: Where got cows live in condos one. Cows live in zoo one la…

Uncle Joe:…

Yup, with my natural talent to deflect questions at will and give nonsensical answers, I think I may actually have a budding potential in politics…:-P

Do not believe all you see..

What people saw:

A bowl of delicious looking porridge is placed in front of me. Taking the spoon, I gently stir the porridge in an even, circular motion. And stir again. And stir again. And stir again… Once in a while, I would bring a spoonful closer to my mouth to blow the heat off. After several cycles, and when I have determined that the spoonful of porridge is of the right temperature, I gulp the spoon into my mouth, enjoying every little bit of the porridge..

What really happened:

A bowl of delicious looking porridge is placed in front of me. Taking the spoon, I gently stir the porridge in an even, circular motion. And stir again. And stir again. And stir again…

Where is the MEAT hidden in all these porridge? Sigh. Do they have to shred the chicken meat? Sigh. All this meat filteration process is sure gonna take a while…

Ahh…there’s some there. Stir. Stir. Some over there. Stir. Stir. Hmmmm…is that meat. Lemme bring it in for a closer look. Blow. Blow. Yup, meat. Yay.

OK. Gotta make sure the spoonful of porridge, er…meat, is not too hot. Blow. Blow. Great.

I gulp the spoon into my mouth, enjoying every little bit of the meat within the porridge….

Lessons from the Shoebox: Happy

God’s Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and self-controlled (Gal 5:22; CEV)

This year’s Christmas is one that Caitlynn and I will always remember…

A couple of weeks ago, Papa and Mama told both of us that some of the church youth were requesting for shoe-boxes of goodies to be given to some poor rural children as Christmas presents. They explained in detail that there are many children out there who are not as blessed in material things like us and these shoe-boxes was one simple way for us to show our love and care to them. Just a simple gesture which would surely bring them joy and make them happy!

So, we got excited and went shopping thereafter in some toy and stationery shop to buy loads of goodies for these children, keeping well in mind that we were not buying anything for ourselves that evening!

After the items had been purchased, we excitedly went home and found two shoe-boxes to fill them up….mission completed!

Packing it in! :-D

Goodies galore!

Mission completed!

Lessons I learnt throughout the entire shoe-box project:

1. We were  so HAPPY during the shopping time even with the knowledge that none of it was for us!

2. We were so HAPPY packing the shoe-boxes with the gifts that we didn’t even bother to see what had been packed inside finally!

3. We were so excited and HAPPY giving the boxes away!

4. We know that the rural kids receiving these shoe-boxes will be thrilled and HAPPY too!

5. And finally just the thought of knowing the joy and love these shoe-boxes brings to them makes us HAPPY!

God’s Spirit does indeed makes us HAPPY! :-D

Extreme Milk Drinking

Life as it is can be quite boring sometimes, right?

That’s why I will always find new ways to make normal, mundane stuff a  little more exciting! Today, I will share about how a seemingly simple activity like milk drinking can be easily modified to become an extreme sport!

Do you always associate milk drinking with flat, soft surfaces like bed, mattresses, sofa, mat, or even floor? Now, try to think out of the box…

How can one drink milk and still make it look wickedly exciting and on edge?

There are many varieties, but today I’d love to share my own version of Extreme Milk Drinking..

Step 1: Find a short bench or long chair when you can lie down for your milk drinking posture. Reason is to invent a location which is high above ground to create that high-risk intensity feel about it.

Step 2: Hold milk bottle tightly and climb onboard the higher ground position. Lie down on your back and make sure you are secured in milk drinking position

Step 3: Drink away! Yeah….!

Once you have tried this a couple of times, you may want to up the ante and increase one level higher to earn more bragging rights. One suggestion is to repeat steps 1-3 but this time, bring along another item to hold in your other hand whilst you drink your milk. So you would effectively be using just ONE HAND to drink your milk and the other hand free to play with a toy or book or something!

This level is a definitely a notch up from the default pose because with an additional item in hand, the (not so safe anymore) activity of milk drinking becomes more dangerous with less available hands to support the risky position.

Like this…

I’m currently working on the next level of Extreme Milk Drinking – Holding TWO toys in both hands and drinking without the assistance of my hands… will share with all of you when I achieve that status..:-P

How do YOU drink your milk?

My Birthday Images

Last Saturday, I celebrated my 2nd birthday in a fairly simple manner – Papa, Mama and Koko Collin took me out to Fridays for dinner. Apparently my cousins Hannah and Ethan were also in town so they also dragged their parents to join in the dinner too!

Needless to say, I was pretty overwhelmed by the ‘crowd’….but I really did enjoy myself…especially the cake and the opening of presents!

Here’s me remembering my 2nd birthday celebration through some photos!:

Hmmm...what shall I wish for?...

To the left, to the left..

To the right, to the right...

Hmmm....when can we open the presents?

My bro Collin and cousin Ethan really had a great time together!

yeah, the food too!

My strawberry vanilla cake....mmmmmm!

The live entertainment show...

Sing song time! :-D

Looks like every kid wants to be in the fire brigade...:-P

Super big sundae on the house...it's even bigger than my head! :-P

I got to sleep later that night too...because more presents awaited me at home! Wee!

A Good Report

Now I understand why so many adults often get so stressed out by business terms such as Key Performance Indicators or Balanced Scorecards.

Why? Because I am assessed on a similar basis too…daily!

I think I may have to thank Ah Ma for starting the ball rolling on this one. A couple of months ago, she noticed I was quite mis-behaving and so she said firmly to me to that she wanted to see a ‘Good Report’ being said of me everyday when I am picked up from Auntie D’s house.

This report would be primarily assessed by Angie (the other girl that Auntie D looks after) or Auntie D herself.

Ever since then, whenever Papa comes to pick me up, he will automatically ask if my report was a ‘Good Report’ or a ‘Bad Report.’ A Good Report usually meant that I would be rewarded with some stickers at the end of the day.

Initially, I created a disturbing trend of one day Good, one day Bad, etc. but eventually, I think I’ve begun to get thehang of things as I’ve regularly scored more Good Reports than Bad Reports on any given week!

Definitely on the right track, huh? :-D

Big Puzzles = Big Fun!

Size does matter.

Whether it is a bowl of black noodles, or the size of the TV screen, or the field to run in, size of Jacuzzi bathtub, size always does matters. And usually, the bigger it is, the better or more fun things become.

How true it is for jigsaw puzzles too. I know putting back jigsaw puzzles has always fascinated me, but things become extra fun very quickly when the puzzle pieces are jumbo sized! I kid you not.

Check out the fun we had during one of those family activity sessions, playing with a giant jigsaw puzzle…

Teamwork! Yeah!

It's coming together!

Almost there!

Completed! Now we can search and play! :-D

I found it!

Biggest challenge was not putting them together…it was finding a suitable box to keep the pieces after we’ve finished playing! Haha…

Bye-Bye Business

One of my favourite words currently is the simple gesture of “Bye-Bye!”

And I’m not shy to use this simple exclamation. It’s really practical too when I realise  that with the accompaniment by the default hand waving gesture, I can, in so many diverse circumstances, say “Bye-Bye!”…

- To Auntie D when I leave her house

- To TV before turning it off

- To clothes when they are thrown into washing machine

- To our house dogs as we leave the house

- To cars and other vehicles passing by the house

- To the barber

- To restaurant aunties and uncles

- To the fishes in any aquarium I see

- To the doctor

- To the moon

- To any dogs, cats or animals I see

- To my poop poop as it floats away during washing bum bum time…
